Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has reassured Nigerians and foreigners resident in Nigeria that his administration is taking necessary actions to enhance national security. The president gave the assurance in his message to Nigerian Muslims on the occasion of Eid-El-Fitri and the end of Ramadan.
Speaking against the background of Friday’s terrorist attack on the UN building in Abuja and other related events, the president said the government has risen to the challenges of national security.
President Jonathan said he has directed the security services to rapidly evolve and implement additional security, intelligence- gathering and counter-terrorism measures to thwart the actions of misguided terrorists.
He said the government is also working out greater cooperation with other countries to track promoters of mindless violence in the country.
The Nigerian leader assured Nigerians that he would not be distracted from the full implementation of his agenda for national transformation by the actions of terrorists and retrogressive elements in the country. He said with the new national economic management team in place, Nigerians should look forward to the fulfillment of the promise of socioeconomic revitalization, job creation and the renewal of national infrastructure in the coming months.
The president also stressed the need for all Nigerians to have a role to play in the urgent task of the nation-building. He urged Nigerians to rededicate themselves to supporting the government in every possible way to ensure that the country continues to make steady progress.
He wished Nigerians, particularly Muslims, happy Eid celebrations and prayed that God Almighty will continue to bless, guide and protect the country.
