Gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram members on Tuesday attacked security operatives on stop and search duty on Zoo Road, during which one civilian was feared dead. This is coming barely 24 hours after the Kano State government in consultation with security agencies relaxed the curfew in the metropolis.
According to an eyewitness account, the gunmen surprisingly launched the attack at about 7.30pm when people were returning to their respective home after the close of business. The shootout, according to a source forced motorists and pedestrians to flee to different directions, while business premises within the vicinity hurriedly closed shop and scampered to safety.
However, it was gathered the security operatives successfully repelled the attack, following prompt reinforcement of mobile policemen to the scene.Furthermore, the source disclosed that it was during the exchange of gun fire between the police and the Islamic insurgents that the civilian said to be a passerby, lost his life.
