NTA News reported in its primetime newscast about an hour ago that there has been a small explosion at a soccer viewing centre in the Tudun Wada area of Jos, a flashpoint highland city in central Nigeria. A few persons were reportedly injured in what was possibly a comparatively small blast.
The city of Jos has been caught in the throes of crisis since 2009 which started as an ethnoreligious crisis which has pitted the muslim Hausa-Fulani settler community of Jos North against the indigenous christian Birom-Anaguta-Afizere ethnic nationalities on the Jos Plateau. Since Christmas 2010 however, the Jos Conflict has witnessed the growing involvement of Boko Haram terrorists whose contribution to the crisis has been the escalation of incidents of IED blasts in a conflict which was hitherto characterised by gun and machete attacks typically mounted by ethnic militiamen on all sides.
