President Goodluck Jonathan Friday in
Lagos, commissioned the first locally
built Seaward Defense Boat (SDB) by
the Nigerian Navy, declaring that it
was a sign of better things to come in
the Nigerian Armed Forces and the country at large. This is just as he also flagged off the construction of another warship by the Nigerian Navy, which is expected to be commissioned next year.

Declaring that the time had come for
Nigerians to start being creative, the
president, expressed joy that such
creativity had begun with the Armed
Forces, revealing that recently in
Kaduna, the Nigerian Airforce during its anniversary, displayed a rare creativity.

“Now, the Navy has shown another
area of creativity and I am told that
the Army has something in the offing.
This is the beginning of transformation and I believe that in another 10-15 years, we will be thinking of starting a project of taking Nigeria to the air. We have just started and we will continue”

Expressing satisfaction over the success of the SDB named NNS ANDONI, the president however observed that the indigenous platforms on ground in different sectors during the country’s independence were grounded due to
what he described as lack of indigenous touch.

He therefore, disclosed that in line with his administration’s agenda of transformation, scholarships would be
given to first class students of tertiary
institutions to study in one of the best
universities in the world, with a view to bringing such knowledge back and
exploring it in the country.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos
State who also graced the occasion
said NNS ANDONI was a clear demonstration of the operational
readiness and professionalism of the
Nigerian Navy ,expressing joy that the NN could build such platform for the
defense of the country. He therefore, called for more support from the Federal Government for the NN, pointing out that the Navy deserved more since it had shown commitment for its readiness to deliver

BEEGEAGLE i know what i am going to say will irritate everybody but they must hear me out.
I thank God for bringing Boko Haram and Niger-Delta militancy to Nigeria for me it is a BAD OMEN that is bearing GOOD AND WONDERFUL FRUITS for the nation. The reasons are very simple, long before 2003/2004 we had this sense or euphoria that we were very safe and our armed forces were very capable and had all the manpower and equipment to defend the nation against any internal and external threats.
Alas ! when the Niger-Delta Militancy started, the Nigerian Navy was severely exposed. It was very obvious that not only were they not ocean going but cannot compete with a fisherman in niger-delta creeks and waterways using a canoe firing an AK 47 rifle at them, what happened after then ? there has been massive injection of funds into the Navy culminating in huge investment not just on the acquisition of many IPV but now 4 OPV, this has also lead to the birth of the NIgerian Navy special boat service and the invigoration of the Amphibious unit of the Nigeria army which was in a comatose state.
NNS NWAMBA and others vessels in that category, plus NNS Thunder were donated by the US, we might not be entirely happy about Thunder but it was a little step further than where we were.
Look at the F-7N of the airforce(FLYING TOYS/COFFINS) though i hate them but they are better than nothing, look at the aquisition of the M-17, M-24/35 so far, look at the reactivation of the Alpha jets and other they are because of all this Niger-Delta Militancy.
The Boko Haram insurgency also severely exposed they army, it shows they had no clue on Urban warfare and counter terrorism expedition, what has happened so far ? there has been massive resources put into training and equipment.
Long before now we never knew wether a rifle given to an officer of any of our armed forces will fire or not as it never tested? reason people from above during the military regime were scared that they will be overthrown. What do we have today Training Training and Training in all military formations-NAVAL exercise ,Airforce expo etc.
I can go on and on about the gains of Boko Haram and Niger-Delta Mlitancy, but one thing is for sure necessity is the mother of invention that is why we now have NNS ANDONI and very soon others will follow in the various armed forces.
At last something good is now coming out of evil.
I dey beg all of una make una no beat me for wetin i write ! i just dey speak the truth.

A German philosopher once said that WAR is the driver of all development.

      Enough said,Makanaky

    • dondrago says:

Makanaky you are very right,if not for the niger delta militancy and boko haram insurgency the nigerian military would have remained in a nearly comatose state and many people may not agree but its the truth,if any one disagree’s they should check the nigerian military acquisition before and after the niger deltan militancy and boko haram

    excerpts on SPECS(more to come)

(..)Project Manager, Commander Ibrahim Shehu, said they went through very tough challenges most of which related to limitations in technology as well as man power. He however stated that his team resorted to creative innovation even as he maintained that the Nigerian Navy has huge capacity.

“We intend to consolidate on the gains from this first vessel in building the second one which Mr. President has graciously approved.”

He said the vessel is a 31hmetre long with about 5.5 metres wide and 3.4 metres in depth. She floats at a draft of about 1.4 metre and got a crew of five officers and 20 men, and it carries various weapons which include guns, cannon, among others.

Looking up to the right behind were the C-in-C is standing, I can see a GPMG port and on the aft deck, the familiar weapon station of a CIS 12.7mm HMG.

Concerning the cannon, I expect that to be a Suncraft RALCO 20mm cannon such as we have on our Sea Eagle OPCs OR the 25mm cannon such as the Israeli Super Dvora/Shaldag Fast Patrol Craft carry.

We shall see. Gimme some time, gentlemen. Y’all need to feed your eyes. It is a blue moon over Nigeria…JOY!
