The immediate past Military Adviser to
the United Nations Secretary General,
Gen. Chikadibia Obiakor(rtd) has called on the federal government to establish a
coordinating Ministry that would be solely responsible for the assessment and management of internal security,
emergency and disaster situations in the country.
In a chat with LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, Gen
Obiakor said that, “corruption among
security operatives has made the
combating of crime difficult thereby
impacting negatively on security
investigations. This problem is compounded by absence of accurate
statistics for security planning purposes,
resulting in under policing of communities. “I am calling on the federal government to establish a coordinating ministry that would be solely responsible for the assessment and management of internal security, emergency and situation in Nigeria.
According to him, “the Nigerian
government should supply the security
agencies with modern equipment and
train them on counter-terrorism including methods of nipping terrorist plots in the bud. He lamented that unregulated cyber activities as well as ill-equipped and corrupt security operatives has remained a daunting factor behind the series of security challenges experienced in Nigeria.
While calling on the federal government
to set up an agency for investigation of
cybercrimes so that culprits could be
tracked using their virtual footprints, he
noted that it was the responsibility of the government supported by its citizenry to provide security by ensuring an enabling environment for growth and development of the nation.
On the emergency and disaster challenges in Nigeria, he enjoined the federal government to further establish more early warning systems to address natural disasters as well as more centers to cater for disaster victims. “Lack of coordination and planning,
limited infrastructure, communication
breakdown has been the major
challenges faced in managing emergency and disaster situation in the country. So the government must establish more early warning systems for natural disasters and more centres to cater for disaster victims when it occurs.

the DSS officers should have way more gear on, including face masks, for crying out loud, they don’t even have any pouches to store extra ammo or sidearms.

is that DSS or SBS, they have SBS uniform, but DSS standard issue rifles?

Thanks for the you tube clip @bossjoe. i can’t quite make out the fire arm type, but the dude in the blue camouflage is definitely SBS.
In past naval ceremonies and boat launches, like that of the initial shaldag boats, it was the SBS providing perimeter security. The president still had his plain clothes body guards however.
It also shows, that the SBS has graduated from just fielding the AK-47.
The SBS and the SSS storm troopers should have similar skill sets when it comes to close quarter combat. But the SBS also have sea and riverine based skill sets that make them unique.
Thanks for that video clip, BossJoe.
Those are SBS commandos indeed but at times like this, they and the SSS throw a joint cordon around the C-in-C
Take a look at this photo from the Golden Jubilee of Independence Fleet Review. The C-in-C is in the Shaldag FPC and is protected by SSS men in suits and regular naval ratings, possibly the ship’s crew.
Flanking the Shaldag on either side are SBS chaps in RHIBs, this time draped in black.
ohh, ok thanks, i never really analyzed that picture that way, and the SBS dude, he had a tavor 21 rifle, which kind of suprised me, because i thought they mainly used m16/m4 like in these pictures http://beegeagle.wordpress.com/2011/08/31/nigerian-navy-special-forces-special-boat-service-commandos-in-pictures/ , and i think i have also seen them using ak47s.
Yeah, those were dummy rifles and US trainers.
WOW !!! beeg, this blog has some great recruiting potential for our armed forces.
Peep the SBS-in-pictures archive pasted by bossjoe, you got replies from youngsters across the nation trying to enlist in the nigerian navy.
They are leaving phone #’s, emails etc etc. The young and impressionable. US army recruiters would jump at the chance to make their acquaintance . With a one way ticket to helmand province or falleujah.(LOL)
