The Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Maj.-Gen Sani Audu, said in Abuja on Friday that the Federal Government
had established two new defence sections in Bamako and Niamey.
Audu announced this at the graduation of Defence Advisers (DA)/Deputy Defence
Advisers (DDA) Initial Training and the
Security Investigation and Interrogation
Course at the Defence Intelligence School, Karu.
He said the sections were established
because of the emerging global trend of
terrorism and the sub regional security
challenge. “The sections, among other things, would provide adequate intelligence on the activities of terrorist groups like Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).
“While the general objectives of the
Defence Adviser system remained largely unchanged, the same cannot be said of the environment in which you are operating,’’ he said. The CDI told the officers to apply all that they had learnt during the training when they return to their duty posts.
According to him, in the past, DAs and
DDAs take up their appointments without the prerequisite knowledge from the initial training, thus making their reports ineffective and their outputs inadequate.
“Gentlemen, let your own stories be
different. I gleaned from the feedback
that the course has been most beneficial. You must not rest on your oars.’’
Earlier, the Commandant of the College,
Commodore Adekunle Olawunmi, said
intelligence was and would remain a vital input to statecraft. Olawunmi said accurate and timely intelligence could only be assured when the producer had the required skills, knowledge and attitude.
One of the participants in the course,
Maj.-Gen John Ogidi, Defence Adviser in
London, said the training would aid them to do their job effectively. The DAs and DDAs course which commenced on May 20 had 38 participants, while the security Investigation and Interrogation course, which commenced on April 16 and had 15 participants.
