In conjunction with the USA:

Joint Combined Exercise Training(JCET)

This first post-qualification course is conducted in conjunction with the US Navy Seals and US Riverline Warfare guys(SWICK). Facilitated by the Africa Partnership Station, it is conducted twice yearly in March and April.

The JCET is a 4-6 week land-based and maritime training programme. The freshly inducted SBS commandos are expected to their advanced and recurrency training path with the JCET.

* Advanced Counterterrorism Course – spans a period of 8 weeks

* Navy SEAL course – spans a period of 6 months and encompasses the full curriculum of special warfare training

Training Weapons

Training is conducted using AK47, M4, Tavor TAR 21 and FN rifles. The MGM-1, a miniaturised general purpose machine gun(GPMG) is used for combat team suppressing fire and can be effectively operated by one trainee. 12.5mm and 12,7mm machine guns are also used.

Slated for delivery in the immediate future are US-made PBL assault boats.

Imagine that! A GPMG manned by just one man? Its either the design is extra terrestrial or the man is superhuman. Can’t wait to see that gun.
They also make use of Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats! It seems FGN/NN is keeping the military covenant with the NNSBS. If the same can be done for all the services, I bet we will have more loyal, disciplined and dedicated soldiers.

I read about a competiition amongst 27 special forces worldwide, the Pakistani SSG came 1st! They are said to be evil!

    • peccavi says:

A GPMG is a one man weapon, anything up to 12.7mm can be handled by a single person.
The 5.56 Minimi however is an excellent machine gun and can be used comfortably in an assault as well

  2. tim says:

It depends on the round…. If it is 5.56 round….then one man can handle it easily

  3. jimmy says:

This is great NEWS ESPECIALLY THE RIGOROUS training they are undergoing.

@spirit, yes the pakistani’s are really good. They’ve got one of the best militaries in the world, and their intelligence service, the ISI is the largest intelligence service and one of the most effective agencies. The pakistani’s are good, and the special boat service would achieve a lot in terms of training, infilitration, CQC et all from them. The chief of army staff, ihejirika was in pakistan a few months back. The two countries have a long history of military patnerships.it would be beneficial for all parties.

  5. doziex says:

Yeah, this is excellent training. For the longest time, I suspected that nigeria would be half-assing this detailed and sophisticated spec ops training process.

Just putting on the right kit, doesn’t an SBS operator make. I am glad we are training with the best, and respecting the process of achieving these super human soldiers.

@spirit, yeah, US navy seals & UK SBS/SAS routinely fire the SAW GPMG from shoulder level. Just as if they were firing an assault rifle.
They overwhelm an adversary with brief but massive suppressive fire, while they evade capture. Shoot and move. I am glad our guys are doing likewise.

I remember Andy mcnab’s gulf war one story about a british SAS team that had to fight it’s way out of iraq.
It’s called the BRAVO TWO ZERO. It shows what elite spec ops are made of.

Unfortunately most of that book is a massive exaggeration. Unfortunate as it motivated me and inspired me alot about the British Army. The true story is just as fascinating but unfortunately less Ramboish

  6. Spirit says:

@ Tim. Thanks for that info about the round.
@Doxie. I saw that book once but the owner refused to lend me. Guess I have to go buy my own copy.

So glad we are finally waking up.

While I was there, I noticed that the Navy’s Underwater Warfare School nearby are training some ex-militants from the Niger Delta in diving.

there you have one of OGA DOZIEX’S GOALS HAS BEEN ACHIEVED.

      • doziex says:

Hey, oga Jimmy, you remembered. HA ! Guys till further notice, I must be addressed as the honorable commander. Al haji & engineering titles to come later. He he he.

    • tim says:

I doubt the navy will allow that, for security issues, oga beegeagle…. You have been there, you know the sensitive installations there, right from kirikiri…. You now that former enemy of states there to be trained…… Abeg oh!! If it is true, who brought up the idea should be sacked

  8. peccavi says:

Alhaji Chief Engineer Doziex (SSCE. JAMB, WAEC) unfortunately the story was sensationalised. It is literally impossible for 8 people to kill 300 in a straight fight unless you blow them up in trucks or helicopters or something, also claims that people were hit with 20mm AA gun fire and their bergans stopped the rounds, nonsense, a 200mm cannon is designed to shoot down planes, a bergan wouldn’t stop it even if it was totally spent.
In fact the reality was that they were discovered by 2 farmers and that’s who they had the fire fight with, what they thought were tanks was actually a bulldozer.
The sad thing is that their tale is awesome enough particularly that of Chris Ryan who E&E for over 300km by himself, which is an exercise in endurance almost unparalleled since WW2.
Unfortunately they allowed themselves to be influenced by their publishers

    • doziex says:

Oga peccavi, thanks 4 the academic credentials. Wow ! I have even watched movies and re-enacted stories based on this bravo two zero story.

The military channel gave Andy Mcnab his own spec op related show. I really thought the event as told, was credible.

I should have known, the military channel is always highlighting and rehashing the military exploits of the US,UK and at times Isreal.

They act as if military experience and expertise only exist in these 3 nations.
