The Nigerian Navy will intensify patrol on waterways across the country, the command’s information officer, Lieutenant Commander Jerry Omodara, has said. In a statement issued yesterday, the Navy said the operation is targeted at controlling illegal bunkering, oil theft and other acts of illegality on the nation’s waterways.
According to him, three ships, helicopters and several patrol boats would be deployed for the exercise. He said the patrol is expected to begin on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
I beg to digress
I don’t think it was reported on this blog, however I recently read report made in may of this year(2012) by an indian newspaper( online), which quoted the indian high commissioner to nigeria, saying that nigeria had approached india in a bid to procure modern air defense system to replace our existing systems.
Yeah, news to that effect emerged at the Air Expo 2012 but it was too sketchy to be meaningful, so we left it off.

This is one more step to becoming a blue navy
However let us make one more suggestion this operation should encompass an area 100-200 nautical miles offshore this is the known area where the major acts of piracy are occurring. This operation may not be unconnected with 4 HIGH LEVEL PIRATES who were caught recently who explained why commit these acts because the reward level is extremely high as much as two million Naira an operation
In closing i have suggested most fervently increase the navy GOVT it is no longer a case of how many Naval operations we do a year it is in our own naval/ maritime/ agricultural/ financial interests to have these operations as routine as once a month.
We are buying the L-15 falcon, the airforce is said to be in the hunt for an air superiority fighter.if we are really soliciting Indias help then we might expect them to help train our fighter pilots(meaning the su-30
may be on its way) and also the akash sam system.
Where are you getting this from ? we have no proof that we are getting any Russian planes. Please expand on your statement
Hunt? for hw long all this talk of hunt is gibberish to me bcos if NAF was serious they would long have made their intentions knwn. I think NAF laks direction or are they searching for an aircraft that is yet to be invented?
Number one, if this is true, it will be a dream come true. Kindly let us into it.
I also learnt that NAF is selling off the Mig-21in case anyone is interested. I wont mind getting one(http://www.globalplanesearch.com/aerobatic/jets/mig/)
