A total of 96, 651 junior police officers have been promoted to various ranks, the 2011 annual report of the Police Service Commission revealed.The report, released last week, said 9, 831 senior officers were promoted while 96, 651 non-commissioned officers got various promotions in 2011
18, 383 sergeants were promoted to inspectors, 15,953 corporals were promoted to sergeants while 62, 315 constables got promotions to the rank of corporal.
Three commissioners were promoted to the rank of assistant inspector general, five deputy commissioners to commissioners, three assistant commissioners to deputy commissioners while 279 deputy superintendents were promoted to superintendents. 1, 127 assistant superintendents were promoted to deputy superintendents while 8, 601 inspectors were promoted to assistant superintendents.
The commission received the highest complaints on misconducts on officers serving in Zone 9(consisting of Umuahia, Abia, Anambra, Enugu) with extortion, abuse of office and threat to life being the prevalent offences. Substantial complaints were also made against policemen in Zone 2, (Lagos and Ogun states), Zone 7 (Abuja,Niger and Kaduna states) and Zone 5, (Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states).
Zone 1(Kano,Katsina and Jigawa states), Zone 8 (Ekiti, Kogi and Kwara states), Zone 10 (Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states) and Zone 12 (Bauchi) received less complaints.
