A soldier and a policeman have been killed in the Nigerian restive state of Borno during an attack on a military base,military authority said on Thursday. According to the spokesman of the
military Joint Task Force, Lt Col Sagir
Musa, the gunmen came to (an outpost) of the 21 Brigade troops’ at Marte, located in the northern part of Borno on Wednesday.
“At about 2 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday),

part of Borno State,” he added, noting
that one soldier, one police personnel and 5 gunmen lost their lives during an
exchange of fire. No civilian casualty was recorded, the military spokesperson said.
Items recovered are two AK 47 rifles, one locally made double barrel gun, three magazines loaded with 35 rounds of assorted ammunition, one dane gun and machetes, Lt Col Musa said.
Maiduguri, located in Nigeria’s northeastern region, is a Boko Haram
flashpoint, where the Nigerian
government had declared and lifted some curfews due to wave of attacks. Waves of attack believed to be
perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect have been reported in the northern and central parts of Nigeria. The Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in its latest report that more than 1,500 people, including women and children, had been killed in various attacks by the Boko Haram sect since 2009.
