programmes,hosted payloads,MilSatCom
solutions, international cooperation,
pooling commercial and military assets,
SatCom for UAVs and development of satellite technologies in the MEA region.

Attendees will be able to learn about the latest security and communications
challenges faced by one of the world’s
most forward-moving markets. 18 speakers from leading organisations
will deliver case-studies and presentations to include Qatar Armed
Forces, Nigerian Air Force, UK MoD,

    It’s a gaddamn action packed event…..

Morocco launched a small research satellite a little over a decade ago. Dunno if they went big time like we did. What is sure is that Algeria, South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria have SERIOUS satellites in orbit for Africa.

I can see that Egypt are coming to the expo but not South Africa and Algeria. Dunno why. I personally would have loved to learn how the Algerians have deployed theirs for CTCOIN operations. With 88% of Algerian territory covered by desert, it was always clear that satellite surveillance for them was a MUST, if only to keep an eye on two million square kilometres of sparsely settled desert where terrorists often cross back and forth.

The Brazilians similarly use satellites to keep an eye on their Amazon forest, an area equal in size to all of West and Central Europe put together.

Interesting, a good development if followed through, should improve comms, command and control significantly.
The current generation of Nigerian satellites will be useful in terms of monitoring, however using them as spy or obs satellites is a bit further down the line.
More useful would be in map making

Also for agriculture specifically desertification- especially in areas of the north where the desert is constantly a threat.

Out of the 4 satellites we have in space,3 are for remote sensing(NigSat-1,NigSat-2 and NigSat-X) while the NigComSat-1R is being used for communication.
The FG has tried by putting 4 satellites in space, however,we need at least 3 microwave Radar Imaging Satellites to be in space within the time widow 2013-2015-2020.
Why this type of satellite some persons may ask?- a microwave radar imaging satellite can penetrate the thick cloud-cover or other atmospheric propagation impairments from the stratosphere down to the lower layers of the troposphere. This is a synthetic aperture radar,SAR which enable earth in all weather, day and night conditions. It acquires data in C-band.
Very few countries have this type of satellite in space, these countries are US,Canada,Europe,Isreal , India and may China. This is an advanced technology satellite that has been widely used for security and defence Ops around the globe.
The Isrealis built one for India in 2009,named RiSat-2, the Indian Space Research Organisation,ISRO in turn built and launched the second Risat-1 in April 2012.India is currently having eleven(11) satellites in space.
China on its part has launched 7 Yaogan Surveillance satellites since December 2009 to enhanced her ISR capability along her maritime periphery and beyond. It is worth knowing that Chinese Yaogan satellites 9A,B and C fly in a formation as some form of naval ocean surveillance system(NOSS).
These are the type of capabilities we need for our present security challanges,be it in the N-Delta and our EEZ or in Plateau,Kaduna, kano,Bauchi,Yobe and Borno states respectively.
