THE Nigerian Army Engineers (NAE), last
week, witnessed a change of command
as new Corps Commander, Major General
Funsho Owonibi took over from the
former commander, Major General
Adebayo Olaniyi.
At the handing and taking over ceremony, held at the headquarters, Nigerian Army Engineers, Bonny Cantonment, Victoria Island, Lagos, Gen. Owonibi said the change in the leadership of the Nigerian Army Engineers came at a most auspicious time in the history of the country and the Armed Forces.
According to him, the country has been
bedeviled with a new security threat –
non-traditional security threats, in the
form of insurgency and terrorism. He said that it is the vision of the Chief
of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubike O.Ihejirika to build an Army better able to meet contemporary challenges and consolidate on the competencies of the
Nigerian Army Engineers through realistic training and strict adherence to best practices in order to position the Corps to support the Nigerian Army in meeting its contemporary challenges.
