This is not Surprising with the advent of better training and procurement the goal should be to make BUNKERING high risk/ low reward .The F.G. needs to make speedy prosecutions a determined effort with Mandatory JAIL SENTENCES of 5/ 10/ 15/ 20 year sentences depending on the level of involvement and the amount of PETROLEUM PRODUCTS recovered. Also the level of reward even though the men and women of the JTSF are doing their job should be increased because as we have seen with more and more seizures has become more and more deadly in confrontations This is a very ,very dangerous job these brave men and women are doing and they should be compensated for it .

We have probably heard hundreds of arrests, confiscations but how many prosecutions and convictions have we heard of? -not many, cases takes several years, very difficult to prosecute and lots of corruption will eventually be involved! The truth is that while JTSF and Navy guys are making life difficult for bunkerers, the law and judges always gives them relief!

What we need is a special court to try oil bunkerers and pirates under economic sabotage laws that will prescribe at least 12-years without option of bail and life imprisonment when oil of valu more than N50m is involved. Special court must sit and conclude hearing and deliver judgment in 30-40 days in full public glare,an arrangement should also be made to allow Military lawyers to prosecute in such courts!

True that this kind of arrangement might be open abuse but I am confident that with 100 convictions a years oil bunkering will reduce to less that half the next year
