Kenya Army troops at the Liboi border post

Tension is high in Kenya’s northern restive town of Garissa on Monday after
the killing of three soldiers near the
border with Somalia. Unknown assailants shot the three soldiers of the Kenya Defense Forces(KDF) in the head while they were waiting for mechanics to replace a tyre in a garage along the Garissa-Kismayo road. The gunmen escaped after the attack.
“It’s unfortunate that we have lost three
of our KDF officers who were killed at
around 1:00 p.m. (local time) by unknown assailants who later escaped on foot. They were in a garage in Garisa town to replace a lorry tyre when unknown men came from nowhere and shot them in the head and later escaped,” the divisional police commander, George Losku, told
Xinhua by telephone. He said the three military officers were not armed when the incident occurred.
The divisional police chief said no arrests have been made so far. “We have launched a major manhunt for the suspects whom we believe are still holed up in the town. We have not arrested anyone in connection with the
killing of the military officers, but the
crackdown is on,” Losku said. “We surely will catch up with them. We will not accept to be losing more innocent lives and those of security officers anymore, ” he pledged.
The incident has paralyzed business in the town with shops shut down amid heavy gunfire and fears of being looted by criminals who might take advantage. “There is a lot of tension amid confusion
due to heavy gunfire in the town. People
are fleeing in all directions. The town has been deserted and everyone is indoors,” said Hali Abdi, a resident of Garissa.
Kenyan security forces have repeatedly
accused some of local residents in the
restive region of either harboring members of Al- Shabaab, an Al-Qaida
linked militant group based in southern
Somalia, or participating in the attacks. They have carried out several operations
to nab suspects.
Garissa has witnessed increasing grenade and gun attacks targeting both the Kenyan security forces and civilians since October 2011, when the Kenyan military entered Somalia in pursuit of Al-Shabaab fighters.

One would assume that the entire
Northern Frontier Districts (NFD) are
designated ‘active zones’, actually they
have been for quite a many years now
in regards to internal security.
But despite that 3 KDF on addition in an ‘active-deployment zone’ choose to
ignore their training and gallivant about town…those sergeant majors will have a lot to say for a while…RIP to those 3 boys or maybe even girls, after all is said and done, we are proud of their sacrifices.
Questions though….3 clean headshots?…no personal arms? I see cause to assume ‘familiarity’ with that environment, cause that there was
an ‘execution’

The denying can continue if you want. Kenya and East africa in general must be very careful or the issue of Kenyan SOMALIS COULD GENERATE into a mini international war engulfing three east african countries. There is nothing better that the remmnants of al shabab would like better than to see this happen.
Unlike some of our fellow overly jingonistic Africans to borrow oga doziex’s term i dont have a crab mentality I sincerley want Kenya to win this war and win it permeanantly because if it continues to spill back to the doorsteps of Nairobi it is not a good thing for anybody.

I’ll try not to get bogged down in semantics, but I do understand your caution to Kenya, Somalia and am
assuming you meant Uganda as the
third belligerent in your ‘probable’ war.
Amazingly enough Kenya has already been at war with Somalia since time immemorial; okay maybe that is an
overstatement….so lets’ say since their
independences.
Initially it was Political, and then a
little unknown skirmish they called the ‘shifta wars’ followed by more ‘political
wars’…the wars over hearts and minds
on the strategic geopolitical future of
the NFD, so it was then. Luckily for
Kenya, Somalia had a larger propensity
to ‘self-destruct’ and with a great help from a perpetually ‘shifty and edgy’
Ethiopia…I best stop there for now!!!
Nobody hardly noticed the dire
negligence NFD was afforded by its’
own government. The only thing NFD
can boast of is a ‘full house’ of all security outfits and some internationally renowned training areas in military circuits…shameful as it is, that is that…lool
But apparently all that changes now that certain realities under those old rocks and sands has become economically prudent and viable to bring to the surface.
Meaning that Kenya and Somalia are
now one and the same people, that is a
geopolitical reality…..It really doesn’t
matter how much or how far ‘oddities’ like Alshababs will and are trying to
manifest their ‘small thinking’, the
realities are here and now and they
don’t have a geopolitical message to
deliver to what used to be Dadaab and
is no longer any different to what is Kenya now, there is NO GOING BACK
HOME because it’s already
home…..that’s a reality Kenya-Somali-
Kenyans should embrace as they chase
their tails around those potholed and
ramshackle streets that they both call home…..
Instead they should be building bridges of reality, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the Chinese to finally understand where we are!!!
