RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany
Colleagues from the Nigerian air force Quick Response Force visited members of the 435th Contingency Response Group here Dec. 4 through 6. Five members of the QRF came to the CRG to gain a better understanding of their construct, capabilities, and employment.
“Our goal is to address their needs and
concerns to improve their own airfield
assessment, security forces and emergency medical support,” said Staff
Sgt. Luis Devotto, 435th CRG air advisor
and NCOIC of special vehicle maintenance. “We are also building a plan for future familiarization activities”
Assisting with training and building
partnership capacity with air forces from
other nations is one of the missions of
the 435th CRG. With these partnerships,
the U.S. is able to teach and learn new
mission techniques from counterparts from other nations.
“I am very excited to be here and to
learn,” said Air Commodore Benard U.
Chiobi, QRF commander. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to come and see how our partners carry out their mission.” Using their experience in combat support training, construction, airlift support, quick response times, and airbase security, the 435th CRG shared more efficient methods to complete the
Nigerian Air Force mission.
“We need to speak with people who have that experience so we can tap into that knowledge,” said Group Captain

regiment director.
Using the knowledge of the Airmen who make up the 42 different career fields of the 435th CRG,the Nigerian counterparts received a better understanding of how to complete their day-to-day operations. “My team and I are trying to build the air force unit of the future, my main focus is to get our guys trained and ready,” said Chiobi. “There are many techniques that have been demonstrated for us over the last few days that I think will help.” My team learned how to evaluate needs for personnel and equipment; we saw the strengths of the Contingency Response Group and were not disappointed with what we saw,” Chiobi said. “I had my personal expectations set very high and I’m happy to say they were met. I’m looking forward to continuing the relationship between our two nations.”

Hmmm… is the Quick Response Force the name of the special forces of the Nigerian Air Force.
The 435th appears to be an expeditionary airfeild unit.
Very interesting. Its the kind of capability Nigeria needs to develop in order to sustain internal and external operations
All I can see is good news for our air force. QRF (special force) for the air force is great news. Already air force ground personnel serve in maiduiguiri, so a special squad they can call up to in real-time would be just perfect for them.
BACKGROUNDER
NIGERIAN AIR FORCE ESTABLISH QUICK RESPONSE FORCE
The Nigerian Air Force actually have GROUND TROOPS trained at the 325 Ground Training Group.
Because the FG revised the personnel intake quotas for all the defence and security services upwards, the outgone CAS Air Marshal MD Umar actually indicated on NTA News at this time last year when Flying Officer Blessing Liman emerged as the first military pilot in West Africa a year ago, that the intake at the 325 GTG for 2012 would be 1,000 RECRUITS..up from 500 trainees.
Moving on, we have had a NATIONAL AIR DEFENCE CORPS under the NAF for decades. That is the anti-aircraft artillery unit of the NAF.
We have a NIGERIAN AIR FORCE REGIMENT, whose personnel Henry rightly observed are in action with the JSTF and STF. The NAF Regiment are essentially the NAF’s own organic infantry unit,
Two years ago, we began to see special forces operatives of the NAF Regiment and the suggestion was that they had formed one or two special warfare companies. Indeed, we first saw these chaps at the Air Expo 2010 and again, at the Golden Jubilee of Independence P’rade.
But whatever the NAF Regiment, regular or special operations personnel, get up to, we have yet to see them step out of the shadows.
This ties into what oga xnur had discussed earlier on about the f.g. has budgeted a certain amount I forget now for fy 2012/2013 for the development of a NAF regiment with Special forces implications.
NAF should have just named it’s special forces unit SAS like the Uk, australians, zimbabweans and many others, since we already use the SBS for our naval commando units.
Its not an SF unit in that mould, although I guess they could be operating behind lines, it looks like a rapid reaction force, essentially do set up logistics, command and control etc in different locations. Non glamorous stuff but very important. Its an indicator the air force is getting serious as its a non chop money/ white elephant project that is only useful for an Air Force developing an expeditionary or civil contingency capability
‘Special Air Squadron’ or ‘Rapid Action Squadron’ not bad either, if you ask me.
The Special Boat SERVICE equivalent in Sri Lanka are known as the “Special Boat SQUADRON’
Great Patriots,please just let the NAF special forces with their QRF,Quick Response Force,actually it is not the name but what they can do for our country that matters,whether they can– rescue down own-pilots behind enemy lines;cripple enemy radars and communications;take over enemy airfields,carry out the destrtuction of her combat aircrafts on the ground and air defence capabilities etc,…only time will tell.
Yes Peccavi, equipping NAF rapid reaction force (about N200million) shows the importance of force protection in all NAF deployment and ensure the security of NAF personnel and assets while on ground in Peace Support operation (PSO) areas. Force protection is now an integral part of NAF deployment and this can be achieved by strengthening the NAF regiment to form an organic arm in all NAF PSO deployments so as to prevent unprecedented attacks like the killing of Nigerian soldiers in Darfur Sudan by the belligerents. The NAF Regiment Squadron is going to be developed for force protection duties which include the pattern and strength of the force to be assigned in each NAF deployment.
Are there any specs on the NAF Regts capability
Air Commodore Benard U. Chiobi and his staff is tasked to evolve the regt capability ASAP, lets await its outcome.
