A suspected insurgent was yesterday
killed while another was captured by
security operatives in a joint operation
by the army and State Security Service
(SSS) at Gidan Dare area of Sokoto State. The operatives also deactivated 12
locally made bombs already primed to
explode. The operation which was said to have begun in the early hours of yesterday was said to have lasted for about six hours.
Briefing journalists after the operation,

Ibrahim disclosed that the action took
place upon a tip-off. “On a tipoff, we undertook a joint operation in the general area of Gidan Dare around Kalambaina road where a terrorists’ hideout was discovered,” he explained.
Describing the operation as hugely
successful, Brig-Gen Ibrahim however
noted that the families of the terrorists
including two pregnant ladies were
saved. Besides, he said a total of five women including the two pregnant ones and six children were also secured.
The commander listed items recovered
to include six AK47 rifles and one pump
action rifle,13 magazines of ammunition, seven improvised explosive
materials, 56 detonator cables, 32 nine
volt batteries and two 9mm pistols. Others include 701 rounds of 7.62
millimetre ammunition, 13 improvised
explosive devices timer clocks and five
packets of electric cables and one axe.
He said also recovered were four
telephone handsets, 56 SIM cards, three
memory cards, 10 cantons of milk,3
handset chargers, one Abuja plate
number EL 295 ABJ , N76,685 in cash, five masking tapes, one sledge hammer, one dusting power and one wristwatch.
