At least six people have been confirmed
dead and six others injured Monday in
multiple explosions at a bar in Nigeria’s
northern Kano State, said the police late
Monday. Three blasts took place at a bar in the Christian-dominated Sabon Gari region in the Kano State immediately after the night prayers and sporadic shooting ensued, said the police. A Xinhua reporter in the area said local
residents made frantic efforts to confirm
the whereabouts of their relatives after
the explosions.

Spokesman of the Joint Security Task Force, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the incident but declined to give more details. A military official told Xinhua
that up to 11 people may have been
killed.

Kano State has witnessed waves of
violence by the militant sect of Boko
Haram. Thousands of people have been
killed in northern and central parts of
Nigeria since the sect launched
insurgency in 2009.
