As the military and state governments in the north-east step up efforts to wipe out insurgency in the region, gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram stormed a construction site in the Bara area of Yobe State, carting off 125 kilogrammes of dynamite and hundreds of detonators, two security sources informed Reuters Wednesday.

The militants were said to have struck Bara at around 2am on Monday, the two security sources in Yobe told Reuters, but no shots were heard. One of the sources said the men arrived on four motorcycles, beating and overpowering the site’s private security guards. The police and military both declined to comment.

Officials from the company, a Nigerian firm called Ric Rock, were not immediately available for comment.Videos shown to Reuters by a counter- terrorism official on Sunday showed Boko Haram militants giving detailed instructions on how to make bombs, including a suicide vest and a car bomb in Hausa language, filming how it is done.

Our security services have been doing a stirling job in dealing with the BH insurgency- and they deserve our thanks and heart felt praise. The terrorists are getting desparate now and will resort to all sorts of unorthordox tactics to obtain weapons. Thus our security services have foreseen this type of thing happening. In any event its a wake -up call and they shouild learn from this experience and start thingking outside the box so as to forestall future occurences.

Nigeria must not remove her foot from the pedal. As we can see, in areas where the terrorists where hitherto operating on a low keel, now that they have been uprooted from their bases, they shall seek to move into any non-core operational areas to escape the onslaught and to regroup, if given any breathers.

The fact that they are stealing dynamite and that we have not had any significant IED incidents in the areas under emergency rule, going back to the month of May, suggests a depleted IED-making and deployement capacity and that is almost certainly as a result of the hundreds of raids on IED factories conducted before the emergency rule.

Methinks that is why they are stealing explosive materiel and that also means that like goats with their backs to the wall, BH plan to fight back IF there is any let-up in the tempo of activities by the OP BOYONA and OP RESTORE ORDER personnel.

One word – crackdown. It is working and will work even better if you crackdown harder and relentlessly. BH are on the ropes, so don’t let go. Remember 2009.
