DEFENCE HQ, JSTF DENY ARREST OF BOKO HARAM LEADER, ABUBAKAR SHEKAU

Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade

THE GUARDIAN
5 August, 2013

THE Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Abuja and Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno State Sunday denied the arrest and deposition of the Boko Haram leader, Sheikh Abubakar Shekau at Karanga village in Niger Republic on July 27, 2013.

Speaking with The Guardian in Maiduguri, Sunday, the Director of Defence Information, Brig-Gen Chris
Olukolade disclosed that it was not
Shekau but a top Boko Haram commander (name withheld) who was
arrested by the Multinational Joint Task
Force (MJTF), at Karanga village.

He said: “Yes, it is true that men of the
MJTF arrested a top commander of the
Boko Haram sect who was recruiting
more sect members to launch attacks on
some Nigerian border towns and villages. I cannot give you his full name, because it may jeopardise our
investigations. The truth of the matter
is that Shekau was not arrested, as
reported last week on Facebook and
Twitter. If we had arrested him, what prevents us from telling Nigerians that the terror sect leader has been arrested?”

Speaking further on Sherau’s purported
arrest yesterday, JTF’s spokesman, Lt.
Col. Sagir Musa said: “The truth of the
matter is that last week there were
reports that Shekau was wounded, it is
a correct report. He was wounded here
in Maiduguri last year and in the latest
military expedition at Sambisa forests, but l am not aware that he was
arrested.”

One Response to DEFENCE HQ, JSTF DENY ARREST OF BOKO HARAM LEADER, ABUBAKAR SHEKAU

  1. jimmy says:

Well the interesting thing is SHEKAU is:
    1) In NIGERIA
    2) Wounded ( verified)
    3) There is some real ( confirmed ) division going on in Boko Haram
What we would like to see is a step up of MILITARY infrastructure at these SENSITIVE MILITARY TOWNS.
