Nigeria’s military on Wednesday said it had killed the second-in-command of Islamist group Boko Haram while repelling an insurgent attack earlier this month. A military statement said there had been a bounty of 25 million naira ($156,000; 117,000 euros) on the head of Momodu Bama, who went by the alias Abu Saad.

“During the Boko Haram terrorists’ attack… on 4 August, 2013 (troops) killed Momodu Bama,” a statement from
spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Sagir
Musa said. He was killed in the town of Bama in northeastern Borno state, Boko Haram’s traditional stronghold, the statement said. He “was the terrorists’ operation officer and second-in-command to Abubakar Shekau”, the Boko Haram chief who has been declared a global terrorist by the
United States, the statement added.

While Boko Haram’s composition has
typically been hard to unravel, a source
familiar with the group’s make-up
confirmed Bama’s status as Shekau’s
deputy. The reported killing comes amid a large military offensive launched in May aimed at crushing the insurgency. Boko Haram has carried out fresh attacks in recent weeks, raising questions about the effectiveness of the military campaign.

One sure sign is that the killjoys of the global media are ‘downplaying it’. If it had been two people killed by terrorists..aha, that would be trending now! “We told you those corrupt Nigerians could not do it.”

Since they have failed in CTCOIN at home and abroad…certainly never claimed any skull that big from an adversary, so nobody else dares succeed. The Nigerians must dialogue and be denied the joy of a battlefield victory.

Do you remember the vitriolic campaign mounted against the Sri Lankans by Western activists and journalists when it became clear late in Q1 2009 that they were on the cusp of an outright victory over the LTTE after 26 years of bitter warfare? Scare mongering and reports of abuses drowned out all other details.

AFP, who have a Nigerian anchorman in Timothy Kolajo, have already told you that he is indeed the deputy leader of BH.

Congrats to the Special Forces and the JSTF. Na so e suppose be.

  3. makanaky says:

This is certainly good news for peace loving Nigerians, the signs were there going by what has been happening in the last 3weeks with the gradual decimation of the group, the capture and killing of their top officials.
There is light at the end of the tunnel.
I heard from a Cameroonian friend that their borders are been sealed with no official statement made and if it is true ? be rest assured that BH will no longer have any escape route,

  4. Deway says:

    Very good news

  5. Henry says:

This is a raving news!!!!! Excellent.

  6. ayakubu says:

This is very good news. We need to step up and eliminate BH once and for all – they are the scourge of our society. They’ll be right at home in the 16th century not modern day naija.

  7. dave daffiduss says:

Momodu Bama gun down in Bama town…. Hummm thumbs up special force

  8. asorockweb says:

The area around Bama used to be a BH stronghold (the sambisa game reserve).
It is significant that the BH number 2 lead an attack (4th Aug) against the NSF operating in Bama.

Was it a desperate, last-ditch effort to break the stranglehold of the NA and MOPOL in the Bama area?

Or was it just a show of strength by BH?

If the number 2 man in BH leads an attack against a target that is likely to fight back strongly, I believe it’s the former rather than the latter.

Shekau, where are you? – please reply with your GPS coordinates.

  9. beegeagle says:

Gentlemen, tis a great day for real…news of the liquidation of the BH deputy leader, a Top 19 commander and a sub-commander all in one day 🙂

Indeed, Oga Asorock, when the 2ic and Operations Chief of BH personally leads an attack, it smacks of desperation. Do not forget that in June, BH distributed leaflets in Gwoza and Bama threatening the local administration and populace. All of that was to allow them set up near the border and in the volcanic and cave-littered Gwoza Hills where the MOPOL actually have their main national training centre.

The people have kept faith, stayed on the side of the forces and have now been rid of an absolute idiot in their midst. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  10. beegeagle says:

So time to lock onto Shekau. He is sure to lead his goons into battle any moment now. Hopefully our burgeoning SF commandos similarly get to do battle against him and hopefully, knock off his teeth with bullets and shave off his unkempt beard.
