The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, on Friday ordered soldiers to be alert at their duty post to detect and counter terrorism. Ihejirika gave the order at the closing ceremony of the second Commanding Officers’ Workshop for the Senior Course 36 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna.
He stressed the need for the officers to
imbibe attitudinal change, ensure
optimum utilisation of funds and good
management of men to tackle insecurity. He said that the military had developed new principles to guide its operations and introduced new training modules.
The COAS also urged troops to be more
alert at their duty posts to tackle the
security challenges in the country. “ This is necessary if emerging contemporary security challenges are to be dealt with and if our statutory duty of defending the territorial integrity of the country is to be fulfilled,’’ he said.
Ihejirika said that the theme of the
workshop, “Building the Capacity of Unit
Commanders to meet Contemporary
Challenges,” was aimed at improving
efficiency, knowledge and functional
administration of the participants.
Earlier, the Acting Commandant and
Director of Studies, AFCSC, Rear Adm.
Samuel Alade, urged the workshop
participants to ensure that they utilise
the practical aspect of the training.“This will enable you discharge your
duties effectively in securing the nation,’’he said.
