“The troops of 195 Battalion in Damboa on Thursday successfully repelled Boko Haram terrorists’ attack on residents and a military camp.“The insurgents attempted to launch

    Lovely news!

Kill them all……its even worthy of note that Boko Haram has been confined to the remote villages in Borno-Yobe-Adamawa Axis it shows serious intensive bracket has been drawn and gets tighter daily, the new NA-NAF-SSS Partnership is paying off, we just need to move it further with new air platforms for the NAF and Newer Vehicles for the NA, kudos to the Army and we pray for the slain soldier and pray the wounded survive.

I also love the fact that The NAF is currently trailing the fleeing insurgents it seems they are listening finally.

That’s the way to do it. Keep up the pressure and it will be only a matter of time.

This is a good time to remind the authorities of more effective COIN assets i.e. helos with precision day/night strike capabilities. Their importance cannot be over-emphasized if we are to keep up the pressure on those buffoons.

  3. jimmy says:

If there is one very important lesson to be learned from this is. The procurement of all helicopters should come with thermal image infra red heat signature images for detection purposes at Night. THIS WAR WILL BE concluded BASED ON HOW DETERMINED THE NAF becomes in pursuit, interdiction and elimination.

    • doziex says:

Yeah oga jimmy. I will also add trapping to your list.

It’s the most difficult and dangerous aspect of counterinsurgency.

First you cut them off, then you kill them.

Helicopter mobile troops will make it possible to over take or out flank these fleeing rebels.
With heliborne troop insertions, our spec ops, could also pre position ambushes before striking an enemy strong hold.

Heliborne troops are also badly needed in plateau state, to deal with those so called herdsmen.

  4. Yagazie says:

FANTASTIC NEWS!! kUDOS to the NA troops who took part in this operation and may the soul of the soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice, rest in perfect peace. May GOD also give his family the fortitude to bear the loss. I also pray that his entitlements/emoluments will be paid to his next of kin on time.

The only other comment I would want respectfully wish to make is that the Defence Headquaters should seriously consider having ‘vetted’ journalists embedded with the troops/security operatives involved in the COIN operations in the North East. That way we can get independent reports/corroboration as to how well are guys are doing as well as the challenges they face.

It would also put the Army in a position where it is being pro-active, instead of simply reacting to nebulous news reports about the current situation in the theatre of operations filed by journalists (both local and international) who are thousands of miles away from the scene.

  5. Edidiong Idiong says:

I believe the success of the recent operations have come as result of better HUMINT, particularly anonymous phone calls to the security services that inform on BH activities and movement. Phones are a major source of information in this day and age and since the govt has the capacity for lawful interception, it is better to allow GSM services so the security services benefit from the information provided by a critical element in COIN operations- the public. The decision of the NA to shut down all GSM networks for the length of time they did has been seen for what it was,a tactical error. I know that with actionable HUMINT the Nigeria Army can clean BH’s clock in no time. Kudos to the bravery of the men that put their lives on the line that we may leave in peace and may the soul of the fallen hero rest in peace.

  6. G8T Nigeria says:

good. kill them all. I think the NA should undertake a well planned military exercise in Sambisa forest.
Flank 1- Artillery Direct Fire Exercise. This Ex would involve large Arty units practicing precision fire of high calibre rounds deep into the forest.

Flank 2- Insert Tank units in live fire battle inoculation.

Flank 3- Carryout out random air strikes.

Ex to last 3 weeks. Defence HQ to coordinate.

    kudos NA.
A good terrorist is a dead terrorist.

  9. ifiok umoeka says:

Lol @ Igbi, I remember that quote as originated by then white supremist Rhodesians! But I agree, a good BHmite is a dead one, but a better one is a singing one! Hahaha!

  10. Yagazie says:

Oga Gabriel Morka, thanks for the update on the Algerian naval acquisition.

However with all due respect, as has been said NUMEROUS times on this blog, could you please find a naval thread and post the information, so as not to derail the theme on this particular thread. Thanks for your anticipated co-operation in this matter.

  11. ugobassey says:

Kudos to our army and air force chaps. I cannot overemphasize how important UAVs are in COIN. Even while we are in the process of manufacturing ours, I would urge DHQ to shop around for some of the best. I would submit the following:
    1) Nostromo Yarara: speed 100km/hr range 20km
    2) The Arcturus T-20
    3) The Phantom eye. probably one of the best currently in the market with the ability to carry heavy payloads.
UAVs should be used to identify and take out rebel leaders, thereby eliminating most of their leadership leaving the army and air force to do mop up duties.

  12. Henry says:

Faced with financial constraints and growing military demands of the war against Islamist sect Boko Haram, Nigeria is pushing to revive the local defense industry. Still, it decided to import more than 30 armored personnel carriers, mostly South African-made versions of the Springbuck, for reconnaisance, patrol, command and control, force protection and VIP transport duties.

The country also ordered Springbuck IV mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles to improve force protection and mobility in the face of a transnational terrorist insurgency that relies heavily on heavy bombs and improvised explosive devices. Last month, Nigeria and Senegal became the first African countries to take delivery of an undisclosed number of ballistic armored tactical transport (BATT) APCs.

Imported from US-based defense equipment maker The Armored Group, the APCs are designed for both rural and urban warfare and include a range of vehicle protection levels.

    • jimmy says:

Oga Henry thank you for clearing up the mystery concerning the recent apc procurement.the bigger story to me is not the buying itself it is the origin south africa and the us does this represent a change in relationship between the two countries? Or is this just a one off sale? Frankly when oga beegs broke the news I was honestly thinking, btrs from russia or ukraine T-Mobile. America’s First Nationwide 4G Network

  13. jimmy says:

Sorry typing from the phone is sometimes aggravating. While I am not jumping from joy it is actually a surprise.
1.I would like to see these things happen with a sense of urgency with
    2. I am hoping there is now an actually shift whether it is from Innoson ( Long term) or the Igirigi the focus has to shift to local procurement of apcs over thin skinned hiluxes.
3 . This is actually what we call extra budgetary allocations to the military specifically for the army. There is no reason whatsoever why we can not make the increasing loud call for the air force, WHERE IS THE AIR FORCE GOING? are they going to sit with their arms folded, yes they have a simulator but for what? a simulator has never flown 2000 km FROM Lagos to Sokoto and back or to the outer fringes bordering chad and more critically dropped it’s payload.
Once again thank you for the news.

  14. Are James says:

Foreign observers don’t seem to understand our drop in defence expenditure for 2014.
Maybe it is a year of receiving previously ordered materiel or the government perceives a reduction in the country’s overall risk profile
    http://www.janes.com/article/32167/nigerian-defence-spending-to-fall-for-the-first-time-in-a-decade

    • Obix says:

@Oga Are, yes they don’t quite understand that we also make purchases through extra budgetary allocations and through other government agencies.

  15. Blackrev says:

    just in.
Nigerian army forms a new special operations unit.

i hope they get what makes them special. cos their missions are going to be tough.
