The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in
Maiduguri on Thursday said it repelled the attack of suspected Boko Haram
insurgents on Damboa Town, Damboa
Local Government Area of Borno. This information is contained in a statement issued by the spokesman of the division, Col. Muhammad Dole, in Maiduguri.
“The troops of 195 Battalion in Damboa on Thursday successfully repelled Boko Haram terrorists’ attack on residents and a military camp.“The insurgents attempted to launch
attack on Damboa to cause havoc and
mayhem, but due to timely information and gallantry displayed by the troops, the attack was repelled.
“We also inflicted heavy casualty on the terrorists. While the encounter lasted, 38 Boko Haram suspects were killed and some fled with various degrees of injuries. “Three vehicles, one Sienna LE with registration no: AE 844 DKW laden with cylinders and Improvise Explosive Devices was recovered.
“Also recovered were: one 911
articulated vehicle with registration no SA 575 BBU loaded with 200 bags of foodstuff and one Mitsubishi Canter with registration no XD 441 GG,” Dole said.
Dole also said that large numbers of
weapons were recovered by the army after the operation. “Large cache of assorted arms and high calibre weapons and ammunition,comprising General Purpose Machine Guns(GPMG), Light Machine Guns (LMG) and two AK 47 rifles were seized.
“However, one soldier was killed and
two others, who sustained injuries were hospitalised. “The combined ground troops and Nigerian Air Force aircraft are tactically pursuing the fleeing terrorists in the ongoing operation in the general area of
Damboa and surrounding villages.
“The General Officer Commanding (GOC)7 Division appeals to the general public to avail the troops with any leading information for successful tracking of the fleeing insurgents,” he said.

Kill them all……its even worthy of note that Boko Haram has been confined to the remote villages in Borno-Yobe-Adamawa Axis it shows serious intensive bracket has been drawn and gets tighter daily, the new NA-NAF-SSS Partnership is paying off, we just need to move it further with new air platforms for the NAF and Newer Vehicles for the NA, kudos to the Army and we pray for the slain soldier and pray the wounded survive.
I also love the fact that The NAF is currently trailing the fleeing insurgents it seems they are listening finally.

This is a good time to remind the authorities of more effective COIN assets i.e. helos with precision day/night strike capabilities. Their importance cannot be over-emphasized if we are to keep up the pressure on those buffoons.
If there is one very important lesson to be learned from this is. The procurement of all helicopters should come with thermal image infra red heat signature images for detection purposes at Night. THIS WAR WILL BE concluded BASED ON HOW DETERMINED THE NAF becomes in pursuit, interdiction and elimination.

It’s the most difficult and dangerous aspect of counterinsurgency.
First you cut them off, then you kill them.
Helicopter mobile troops will make it possible to over take or out flank these fleeing rebels.
With heliborne troop insertions, our spec ops, could also pre position ambushes before striking an enemy strong hold.
Heliborne troops are also badly needed in plateau state, to deal with those so called herdsmen.
FANTASTIC NEWS!! kUDOS to the NA troops who took part in this operation and may the soul of the soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice, rest in perfect peace. May GOD also give his family the fortitude to bear the loss. I also pray that his entitlements/emoluments will be paid to his next of kin on time.
The only other comment I would want respectfully wish to make is that the Defence Headquaters should seriously consider having ‘vetted’ journalists embedded with the troops/security operatives involved in the COIN operations in the North East. That way we can get independent reports/corroboration as to how well are guys are doing as well as the challenges they face.
It would also put the Army in a position where it is being pro-active, instead of simply reacting to nebulous news reports about the current situation in the theatre of operations filed by journalists (both local and international) who are thousands of miles away from the scene.
I believe the success of the recent operations have come as result of better HUMINT, particularly anonymous phone calls to the security services that inform on BH activities and movement. Phones are a major source of information in this day and age and since the govt has the capacity for lawful interception, it is better to allow GSM services so the security services benefit from the information provided by a critical element in COIN operations- the public. The decision of the NA to shut down all GSM networks for the length of time they did has been seen for what it was,a tactical error. I know that with actionable HUMINT the Nigeria Army can clean BH’s clock in no time. Kudos to the bravery of the men that put their lives on the line that we may leave in peace and may the soul of the fallen hero rest in peace.

Flank 2- Insert Tank units in live fire battle inoculation.

Kudos to our army and air force chaps. I cannot overemphasize how important UAVs are in COIN. Even while we are in the process of manufacturing ours, I would urge DHQ to shop around for some of the best. I would submit the following:
1) Nostromo Yarara: speed 100km/hr range 20km
2) The Arcturus T-20
3) The Phantom eye. probably one of the best currently in the market with the ability to carry heavy payloads.
