The military on Thursday said that troops deployed to Benue had already cleared camps of all armed gangs in three local government areas of the state. This is contained in a statement issued by Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, the Director of Defence Information, in Abuja.

According to the statement, normalcy has been restored in Guma, Gwer-West and Agatu Local Government Areas, while some arrests and recoveries have been made in the process.

“Formation Commanders of the Nigerian Army have moved to the various states in their area of responsibility to address the deteriorating security situation in parts of the North-Central.

am sure the operation might be like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23ohRpydXYI

If the Nasarawa crisis has started three weeks earlier, NA would have been under major pressure.
But the so called herdsmen mistimed their assault on the villagers.

If reports are to be believed, the Mandara mts. and the Sambisa forest has been cleared.
Those two operations, along with the effort against BH is the lake chad region, took up most of the air power and a lot of the Special Operations troops.

My real issue is with the police. Why couldn’t they handle the Nasarawa situation?

    • Deway says:

Thank you Asorockweb for pointing that out. My thoughts exactly. We have a police zonal command covering Benue and Nassarawa but no one has heard a single word from the command.. Nothing. We haven’t seen any police action whatsoever against these militia men (terrorists). We are gradually wearing out our army. Solution to this crisis should have been left on the laps of the IG, They cant continue collecting salary and entitlements for nothing.

      • OriginalPato says:

Oga Deway, it was reported not long ago during the height of the Benue crisis that the IGP deployed 4 squadrons of MOPOL men totaling 600men. Don’t know what became of them. As some gentlemen have already pointed on this blog the NPF need serious re-jigging, as they can’t be collecting salary while the NA does their job.

  3. doziex says:

    I agree with you gentlemen.

And I have been saying this for some time now, the MOPOL and a large section of the NPF have to become militarized with immediate effect.

NA without significant expansion has become dangerously over stretched.

The MOPOL should be equipped with PKMs preferably the Czech version. They should also be equipped with RPGs, Technicals and RG-31 and cougar type MRAPs/APCs.

They should be structured after the soviet styled interior ministry police or even a more muscular version of the francophone gendamarie.

State governors with very strict federal restrictions and oversight should be allowed to commence community and state police programs to deal with basic crime and insecurity.

The NPF and the MOPOL should be merged, and should deal with interior security issues with national security implications.

This should free up our armed forces for external concerns of regional , continental and even global significance.

So now the Governor of Nassarawa State know that the fulani herdsmen killed by soldiers are not insurgents but why were they occupying the villages abandoned by Tiv people?
Almakura is the source of the crisis by harbouring these marounding murderers,he has lost his 2015 election already, you can take that to the bank!

  5. peccavi says:

Let them not start declaring peace and victory so soon.
The issue now is to prevent a reoccurence

  6. jimmy says:

    Sorry I meant Hiluxes

  7. doziex says:

Congratulations to general Minimah, for giving these nation threatening emergencies, their due attention.

And for the record, I agree with Oga Gbash10, these murderous idiots = the Fulani herdsmen or their mercenaries from farther north.

This crises has been going on for so long, any Nigerian paying any sort of attention should know what’s up.

The Fulani herdsmen pre date BH, but like BH, they have access to rogue elements in our military.

The origins of this crises is a familiar one in Africa.

One between the cattle herdsmen, and the farming communities.

The true herdsmen amongst them should be offered a government sponsored Carrot, a transition to modern day methods of animal husbandry, that does not involve roaming around the nation, and slaughtering any opposition.

For those amongst the herdsmen, who think the fulanis have the God given right to slaughter whom they please, the Nigerian army must organize to hand them the STICK of annihilation.

So, the relocation of 82 division command to benue, is the right signal to send.

However, these NA units must come correct.

No force on earth, should be able to out gun the NA on Nigerian soil.

NA units must show up with the full range of their arsenal. NO EXCUSES.

IF DICON can’t keep up with production, BUY on the arms market brand new or fairly used.

BH overrunning military bases should be all the lesson NA needs not to take any challenge lightly ever again.

It is best that NA shows up overly equipped, than under equipped.

It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Air power in the form of mi-24/35 hinds, tucano A29s and SU-25 frogfoots.

Area saturation weapons in the form of BM-21 and 107mm MBRLs.

    Etc. etc etc.

82 composite division was designed to have airborne, amphibious and air mobile units.

The airmobile concept is going to be increasingly called into use.

The sooner NA invests and stands up these out fits, the better.
