The Nigerian Navy Thursday handed over a hijacked MT Gare ship with three suspects to the International Criminal Police Organization.

Navy Commander of southern Nigeria’s city of Warri in Delta State, Capt. Musa Gemu, said the suspects allegedly used MT Gare to hijack another vessel, MT Kerala, off the coast of Angola on Jan. 18. According to him, the suspects used the hijacked MT Kerala vessel to siphon over 75,000 tons of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) off the coast of Angola.

The navy commander said the ship was hijacked 200 nautical miles off the Angola coast with over 10 million U.S. dollars worth of products on board.

Piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea have been increasing in recent years, drawing attention of the
international community.

My broda, na the camera angle dey deceive. Dem done take over the ship finish before snapping foto. The major joy is the level of in-house competence being acquired by the NN in this anti piracy and marine anti terrorism thing. Very soon we”‘ll be teaching other third world countries. At some point we may have to separate the coastal security stuff from the deep sea blue water stuff which probably suggests a matrix organization based not just on geographical area command but also on function.

Oga beegeagle and other gentlemen, what happened to our 3 units of new sea drones? They should be helping us patrol our waters by now as additional assets.
