what is ur opinion regarding this LOOKALIKE to the NA BATTLEFIELD OBSERVATION AND SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM.

and as i had previously posted it is an israeli product as the optic system is installed on a israeli UGV therefore it is highly likely that the optic system is also israeli.

if u take a look at the picture of both THE NA and israeli version in the collage that i posted u will notice that both the systems can swivle 360 degree and therefore provide all around surveillance.
as i already mentioned they are both day and night capable.
additionaly the pan, tilt and zoom(PTZ) features enables wide area coverage and great overall detail when zooming in.
therefore major benefits of PTZ type optical systems can be summed up as follows
1.large field of view
2.built in motion tracking
3.powerfull zoom
4.full range auto focus
5.day and night capability
also frankly speaking the term PTZ (pan tilt zoom) sounds too oversimplified.it has MORE TO IT THAN MEETS THE EYE.
the main OVERRIDING factors that decide a good optical system according to my limited knowledge are
THE HARDWARE employed i.e sensitivity of the detectors(noise factor) and sampling resolution(no of pixels),also capacity to improve (S/N) signal to noise ratio thus allowing better performance at dimmer light/fast motion etc
simply stating performance of ur optical system depends on these 3 factors noise resolution and sampling.realizing these in a PTZ optic system will give it high military grade performance and which i am sure has been already been done.
THE SOFTWARE employed i.e ability to create efficient algorithms is important and necessay criteria for military grade optics.these algos can/and has been implemented to PTZ optic systems to realise better image base tracking etc etc
so no need to panic .infant i am impressed by NA selection
they have in all wisdow choosen the best approach crawl,walk, run
and u guys should support them.
as for weather these systems are manufactered in nigeria u ogas have the better resources to find that out.(HOME ADVANTAGE) 😀 😀
and guys my assumption that the NA optical system employs israeli/nigerian PTZ day and night cameras is my own personal opinion which i arrived after going through all available resources at my disposal.only in future will it become clear weather i am correct or wrong.
it is simply a small effort on my part to help u all.so plz bear with me

Hehehehehe, you and me both oga. In today’s battle, it’s only fool-hardy to continue to “take the fight to the enemy” no no no, in today’s battle, you stand afar off, preferably in the safety of an enclosed space, use designated equipment to acquire targets from 100’s of meters away, “point and kill”. You can send in ground troops to mop op; but the very heavy lifting in this new type of war is almost always intelligent and remote i.e Remote sensing satellites, Remote sensing UAV’s, Ground based remote sensing radars, these truly enables an arms length battle, one which reduces the casualty rates drastically. Because this is the same trick used by terrorists in this asymmetrical warfare; send in a lone suicide bomber to take out targets, isn’t this another manifestation of the crucial “Remote Warfare.” Imagine how much more secure our borders would be if every guard had this truck in conjunction with #FenceNigerianBorders. Imagine a guard having at his/her finger tips the ability to secure a vast radius seamlessly, now that’s intelligent.

Nicely put. However, I think you got the concept of “taking the fight to the enemy” quite wrong. It actually means retaining the initiative, always being on the offensive, dictating the rhythm of the battle or war, keeping the enemy on his toes, ensuring the enemy’s plan become stale almost immediately, unpredictably. This can be achieved through a robust STAP. Which is why the equipment was acquired in the first place. You can maintain the initiative even in an arms length battle by good deployment and use of ISTAR resources.
Again you said that our borders will be much more secure if every Guard had this truck in conjunction with border fencing. From the way I’m seeing this equipment, each one needs a crew of about 4, and this equipment covers a range which will dictate the intervals to which it will be deployed and a single soldier would not be sufficient to protect this vehicle. I want to believe that you meant Guard Post and not just Guard.
Augustine has been another loud advocate 🙂 of man-portable ground search radars.

I am happy that Nigerian forces inducted the surveillance equipment.
This came out better than expected the mounting especially. Quite Ingenious to say.
What I had prescribed is a ‘Man portable BFSR’ in a discussion about SF. I didn’t advocate any particular brand as such but one as an example for the platform.
Then in another thread, the discussion morphed into use of the same equipment in FoB that Oga Augustine prescribed.

i believe the system belongs to the israeli STALKER FAMILY MOBILE OBSERVATION MULTI SENSOR SYSTEM FOR SECURITY OPERATIONS.it has many varients
FEATURES:

it is suitable for both civilian & military ops.
many of the characteristic seem similiar to the system in the picture posted above
and structurally also they appear similiar( the cone type base and side by side arrangement of EO devices).but the cage is missing in the israeli version.i think NA installed it to provide protection to the equipment when it is not in use or during movement.
but i am only 90% sure that it is one of the STALKER varients and i might be wrong also
only the NA will will be able to ID it,so lets wait and see.
also the CONICAL BASE IN THE PICTURE HOLDS THE TELESCOPIC MOUNT WHICH RAISES THE EQUIPMENT FURTHER TO PROVIDE LONG RANGE OBSERVATION and the cage u see protects this delicate portion.
in the israeli version the system was installed just behind the drivers cabin.while the NA version has it installed at the end of the SUV .
there is a also the posibility that the south african companies might have acted as intermediaries between NA and israel
No not really if the system is wholly made in Israel,They would sell it to us.Currently Nigeria has excellent relations with Israel.

yes the system is totally israeli made and they might have sold it directly to nigeria.
and i found information that quite a few israeli companies have been doing business with nigeria like providing tactical equipments to NA eg jammers,voice encryption modules for 2 way radio etc
also training for anti terror operations,bomb disposal etc has been provided.
but all this has been kept low profile.
comming to the topic it seems the NA needed a surviellance system that was simple to operate,easy to maintain, which required minimum trainning and could be easily mounted on already available vehicles like toyata hilux etc.
the said version of STALKER FITS all the requirements.
the south african connection is not important or relevent .i suggested it only because i thought US might try to pressure israel and israel in order to avoid it might use the south africans help .

Nice, but some suggested improvements. It would be great if the masts are telescopic though, so they can extend and retract. The tripods will stop users from being able to turn 360 degrees for panoramic viewing, so the device can be mounted on the bed of the pickup instead of outside it. There should also be some sort of shield protection for the user. My twopence.

Oga Kola, it is able to retract and extend up to 10- 15 meters, still move 360 degrees. The photo shows the system at it’s basic level.

Im pretty sure tha’ll be the next step. Because the Surveilance crew would also begin to demand the same level of protection as their armored infantry peers. I wholeheartedly support the use of the Igirigi to achieve this purpose. Force multiplier is just a logical step in the evolutionary cycle, because how do FOB’s sleep well at night if they cant see deep into their surroundings, creating a temporary electronic wall of waves that indicate any form of intrusion. Naija neva go carry last oh, I am indeed very well impressed at the sheer ingenuity displayed.

I have the reuters correspondent and couple of other guys on twitter trying to say the whole thing was fishy. They do not want to obey NA directive and just stroll around the SoE. Is that ever done in the war zone? Is Nigeria an unlawful place? These foreign journos think they are above the laws of the land.
Any foreign journo that is not following instructions laid down by NA in the SoE should have his/her visa cancelled and deported.

This Aljazeera in particular just comes off wrong every time. But in this particular instance, rules and regulations have been laid down as per the movement of foreign journalists in the theater of operation, flouting said rules is tantamount to playing outside the confines of the law, hence if they feel that they their rights have been infringed upon, they should proceed to the nearest court and state their case, I doubt if Qatar based, monarchy led Aljazeera truly understand what these avenues of dissent really mean. Anyways, in any case, its only sensible to respect constituted authority led by a democratically elected government.

LOITERING ALJAZEERA JOURNALISTS RESTRAINED
Two journalists working for Aljazeera Television who were found to have been loitering around areas where military operations are onging in the North East have been restrained in Maiduguri. The journalists, Ahmed Idris and Mustafa Andy who were noted to have been moving around various locations including restricted areas in Yobe and Borno State were also operating without any protection , accreditation or due clearance.
They were accordingly monitored by military intelligence operatives until they eventually had to be restrained to their hotel in Maiduguri. This followed the increasing suspicion that their activities were aimed at interfering with the ongoing military operations in the area.
The motive , activities and some material in possession of these individuals are now being investigated.
It will be recalled that Foreign journalists have earlier been cautioned against unauthorised and unprotected movements around the military operations area. This warning is hereby reiterated until formally reversed or lifted. Appropriate arrangements will however continue to be made to assist duly cleared journalists to cover activities in the mission area within the limits of adequate safety, security & necessary procedures.
Unfortunately the Journalists will be quickly released.
The state of emergency laws are not in place, so there will be no legal basis to hold them.

The NA has a constitutional mandate to enforce security all over the country, but if these men have been recognized as journalists, them they will have to let them go – there are no grounds to hold them since no laws have been broken.
The only other option is to charge them with espionage.
The parameters of d SOE are not definded under Nigerian law. So long as they are nt in the country illegally I cant see what we could charge them with ordinarily, except we wanna use espionage or supporting terrorists. They will be released after a few days max mayb hours sef
Let us hope the aljazeera crew gets charged with supporting terrorism and spying on military facilities on behalf of terrorists.

How does one defend such a place? can you even begin to imagine the kind of headache this poses. This aerial view depicts the dilly-dally we witnessed up until a couple of months ago, mind you, all other towns in Borno look similar, which is why the new-battlefield-observation-and-surveillance-system is a game changer because it enables a handful of operators hold on to vast expanse of land, it allows them detect column movement in places not generally utilized by civilians, hence they can be engaged before they get close; this is indeed a game changer. In terrain such as this, gun trucks/technicals/MRLs/AFVs/IFVs are free to go head to head without worries about collateral damage.
Pls, Nigeria should acquire the Type 63 107mm MRLs as stand-off weaponry for use in precincts such as these. That is what Sudan use whenever they seek a decisive edge in Darfur.
And pls, we really should at least be able to get 50% of our fleet of 195 Panhard AML 90 & EE-9 Cascavel AFVs, all armed with 90mm guns, up and running. The systems might be aging but the AML 90 has an in-depth upgrade package available and can still serve us until 2030, if upgraded.
It is in places such as pictured above that they will roll over all BH fortifications and vehicles with direct hits which have little or no implications for collateral damage.
Yeah, we also need truck-mounted 57mm guns which can be used for area defence. We can use the QINGQI or SAMIL 100 as carrier vehicles. We have to remain primed to engage in these 2015 kind of battles in the Northeast, well beyond 2018 before we can ease up a bit. The procurement and deployment has to go on.
Five years after the NDLF of John Togo was pacified in the Niger Delta, the troops are still in advanced states of readiness. Never mind what should suffice in the Far Northeast.

oga mcshegz, even better sef. this should be a commander’s dream terrain. one can monitor them from a long distance, destroy their mobility or even channel them to a well prepared kill zone. this is a dream come true for any competent or resourceful officer.
what they fail at is in reconnaissance. an elaborate multi layered system of early warning and recce would smash any assailant in huge numbers. in fact, with artillery, grid map, aerial surveillance, and functional supply system, the more attackers the better, for it would be faster to kill them before they raise another terrs heads.
you should see what a triple canopy ‘ambush country’ looks like. were you can barely see your own palm in darkness, where visibility is reduced to less than 5 meters.
i dare say the ground ops up north should have been a training situ for the army, not the headache it metamorphosed into.

in open terrain like deserts which contain high sand dunes and low depression terrain MORTARS are the best weapons to engage the enemy.they are cost effective too.
because of their high arcing trajectories they can even take out targets hiding behind high cover or inside enemy fortifications.especially dug in positions.
their minimum attank range is better than long range artillary and MRLs because of the highly parabolic path followed by the mortar rounds.also they have high rate of fire.
u have 51mm 81mm 120mm 160mm calibre mortars
The mortar is good for more than just ‘blowing up’ the enemy. There are numerous types of mortar rounds that are usually available. High explosives are the most common. Smoke rounds are used to conceal friendly movement or mark enemy positions for air strikes
incendiary rounds when these rounds burst, they produce some fragmentation and dense smoke. The thermite canisters scatter and burn intensely, causing fires in exposed ammunition and fuel .
Subprojectile warheads explode above the ground and scatter thousands of small, finned flechettes. These flechettes are deadly to unprotected personnel.
then we have the MOBILE mortar carriers which provide close and immediate indirect fire support for maneuvering units while allowing for rapid displacement and quick reaction to any tactical situation. It would be interesting to know if these 24hr camera systems are managed by the Signals, Engineering or Artillery corps.
If the artillery corps, they could form a lethal partnership with the 40/57mm truck-mounted direct fire system we saw earlier. Better still, why not couple one of these camera systems with the same platform that carries the 40mm gun?

We definitely would not find DHQ’S system on the web because ours isn’t turnkey, we didn’t purchase the whole system outright; modules purchased would probably include, and maybe not entirely, the TV camera, the Thermal/FLIR camera, and the monitor/display(complete with a joystick for altering the systems orientation) present in either the passengers side or the back seat, depending on the dimensions of the screen; everything else would have been developed in Nigeria. Also, kindly note that Nigeria’s system based on the sturdy fastening to the body of the truck will be able to handle more steep bends with the mast fully deployed, hence, this system although not the most aesthetic pleasing is alot more agile, and efficient. Naija. I hail thee.

That vicker was not bought yesterday, I won’t dispute that. But I disagree about its state, it is seeing action therefor it is functionning as it was supposed to. The painting and the dirt on it is what you observe and also that is what makes you say that the vicker on that photo is in a bad state. But it is functionning well.

if u take a look at the picture of both THE NA and israeli version in the collage that i posted u will notice that both the systems can swivle 360 degree and therefore provide all around surveillance.
as i already mentioned they are both day and night capable.
additionaly the pan, tilt and zoom(PTZ) features enables wide area coverage and great overall detail when zooming in.
therefore major benefits of PTZ type optical systems can be summed up as follows
1.large field of view
2.built in motion tracking
3.powerfull zoom
4.full range auto focus
5.day and night capability
also frankly speaking the term PTZ (pan tilt zoom) sounds too oversimplified.it has MORE TO IT THAN MEETS THE EYE.
the main OVERRIDING factors that decide a good optical system according to my limited knowledge are
THE HARDWARE employed i.e sensitivity of the detectors(noise factor) and sampling resolution(no of pixels),also capacity to improve (S/N) signal to noise ratio thus allowing better performance at dimmer light/fast motion etc
simply stating performance of ur optical system depends on these 3 factors noise resolution and sampling.realizing these in a PTZ optic system will give it high military grade performance and which i am sure has been already been done.
THE SOFTWARE employed i.e ability to create efficient algorithms is important and necessay criteria for military grade optics.these algos can/and has been implemented to PTZ optic systems to realise better image base tracking etc etc
so no need to panic .infant i am impressed by NA selection

All my Ogas on this thread, una well done for so much useful contribution on these Nigerian army acquisition of battlefield surveillance telescopic mast mounted video-cameras, a new dawn has arisen.
No more surprise attacks on our troops positions, and some 10 km radius battle space situational awareness for field commanders for ongoing battles and convoys in transit to avoid ambush. Also useful for special forces in recce and spy missions.
Every Nigerian army battalion should have two of these telescopic cameras as one in operation, one as back up. Meaning we should have about 200 units of these equipment in NA. Would be nice if the carrier vehicle in near future is an LAV for light armour protection and self defence light machine guns cover.
The full benefit of this technology is best appreciated in night combat when no eyes can see far without thermal vision. Daylight use is also important for on-going battlefield situation awareness and early warning-detection of approaching enemy forces.
