A military spokesman says African Union
and Somali forces have pushed Islamist
militants out of a town outside of
Mogadishu.

Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda said African Union and Somali troops crossed into Afgoye on Friday. He said some fighting is still taking place with al-Shabab militants but that most of the town was under the troops’ control. The capture of Afgoye represents a major advance for African Union and Somali troops, who have made strong gains against al-Shabab over the last year. More than 300,000 internally displaced Somalis live around Afgoye, and officials say they will now have access to aid.

The UN representative for Somalia,
Augustine Mahiga, said Afgoye has been
an al-Shabab stronghold since the
militants retreated from Mogadishu in
August.

Great stuff from the UPDF AMISOM troops. Excellent liason with the TFG (somali govt forces).

The Burundian contingent had a rough outing(under statement), when they last ventured out of mogadishu proper to take Daynile on the outskirts.

With the sierra leonean contingent now joining the KDF in southern somalia, and ethiopian army deciding to move to capture kismayo, it’s about to be a wrap for Al shabab and Al qaeda.

These online kenyan jingoists have to explain to us why the KDF with all the initial fan fare COULD NOT or DID NOT capture KISMAYO.

Why let the ethiopians take the glory at kenya’s expense ? I guess as museveni has been telling you guys for a while now, practicals is different from theory.

Not that there is anything good to gloss about War but there is one thing that war does it exposes the pretensious nature of certain nations as this warped war comes to it’s closing INEVITABLE STAGES with AL SHABAB warring more on females and children
      1) You see the people JUMPING ON THE BAND WAGON wanting a piece of the action at the very end smh
      2) Reality begins to set in in east AFRICA LIKE IT LUMP IT OR NOT you need the ugandans
3)al shabab proved what we suspected all along when the BBC cameras are turned off and they actually have to do the down right dirty , grimy nitty gritty work of fighting a well coordinated disciplined conventional force they would fold like the local bully who eventually gets the beat down they deserve.
