Hello Gen Beeg, why dem no use Charlie 130?
I think the reason they didnt use the C-130 is that the airport wasnt designed to be used by such heavy duty planes,and from the looks of the airstrip in the background the airport looks more like an airstrip/airfield than an international airport and also according to wiki it says that the airport is just about the same size with osubi airstrip @ efferun which only carries/support medium planes.
Optimusprime007, I really think that Dondrago’s explanation does make sense. At least, aside from the C130 on the Presidential Fleet, we have another C130 operable. So why not? Two flights would get all the troops and materiel to Guinea Bissau
Dem cats look like senegalese or burkinabe troops, not nigerian. They are wearing the characteristic skin tight uniforms worn by the francophonies.
Nigerian troops tend to style their uniforms “baggy” in the american tradition.
Well, the AFP photographer who took that shot would, at the very least, have asked which country’s troops are disembarking.
Even as the guy putting on the beret is wearing it from right to left in typical Francophone style, as against left to right for Anglophone armies, methinks the photographer would have asked questions before writing his caption.
Again, the jungle hats are soo Nigerian..
C-130 is designed for use on unprepared strips, maybe they just used a charter flight for the personnel and the C-130’s for equipment. It looks like a mix of Nigerian and Senegalese the guy on the right is wearing French pattern combats

It is difficult to imagine that a Senegalese-sounding DEMBA who shot these photographs and an uncommonly reliable AFP of France would pass off Senegalese troops for Nigerians two times on the same day – May 26th.
How about NA forward-rolled to Dakar, Guinea Bissau’s nextdoor neighbours and a troop contributing country and from there, they embarked on joint deployment to theatre.
To that extent, Peccavi is probably closer to the truth. I do not doubt the fact that over four-fifths of the troops seen here, camo and hats so familiar, are Nigerians..with or without a caption by AFP/Getty Images
Specifically, I can say that I am 95% convinced that the troops in the second photo are Nigerian troops – that camo scheme and jungle hat are signposts of the NA, if you ask me.
Negative and I do not concur., the second pics are not nigerians…..the way the berets are worn….use your zoom, and nigerian troops will always have the country flag at the sleeve….a bush hat is not for only nigerian soilders……all armies use it..
Not all the soldiers have the country flag at the sleeve, if u want me to i could probably find pictures to proof this point, but about the berets and bush hats i gotta agree u are right, even the boots we always either have brown boots, or even when we have black, we have like a brown cuff thing around it
When on an international mission, it has become standard to have your flag on the sleeve for NA personnels
I did not say that it is peculiar to Nigeria, Tim but that ‘cut’ without a wide brim, of jungle hat, is peculiar to Nigeria. You can crosscheck that from the photos of Exercise Jigui.
Jungle hats are not peculiar to Nigeria. Neither are flags sewn onto sleeves. During the ECOMOG years, Ghana and Senegal placed even higher priority on them than the Nigerians.
These are Nigerian troops with the same DISTINCT cut of jungle hat. I challenge you to show me a Senegalese soldier so that everyone can compare.
It does not take much to see that the hats worn by Nigerian troops in this photo from Exercise Jigui matches the photos which form the subject of this thread 95%. It does not help that both AFP/Getty Image photos named the troops in both photos as Nigerian troops.

So let’s have any photo of a Senegalese jungle hat. We have already seen their different pattern of camo and know that Francophone armies wear their berets from right to left, so it is not in doubt that the soldier in the lead photo of this thread who has his back to the camera is certainly not a Nigerian.
Beeg, I agree, the jungle hats point to NA troops, but the form fitting cut of the uniforms point to the francophonies.
Anywho, it doesn’t matter much, there is a 10,000 strong guinea bissau army force on the outskirts of town capable of crushing this ecomib force within 24 hours.
And no rapid reaction force to bail them out.
IT is not in their interest to crush this force because this is not really as projected as an interventionist force it is more of a protectionist force for CERTAIN CIVILLIAN figures if this force is attacked whether the do- nothing- defence minster likes it or not they will be compelled to send the heavy duty guys
however i am with you though as to why they sent A LIGHTLY ARMED token FORCE I dey smh(scratch my head):( !
